This Week’s Consumer Guide

Look for the sign of a 2008 REIQ member

Becoming a Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) accredited agency is not just as simple as filling in a form or paying a membership fee.

REIQ accredited agencies must successfully complete annual Continued Professional Development (CPD) – where they can gain valuable insight into new and relevant issues within the industry – to remain accredited and have the right to display the REIQ accreditation logo featuring the current year.

“REIQ accredited agencies are now displaying their 2008 accredited agency logos,” REIQ executive manager Elissa Keenan said.

“The REIQ accredited agency 2008 logo is synonymous with professionalism and best practice and serves as a visual safeguard to help consumers make informed and confident choices.”

Ms Keenan said the REIQ is celebrating its 90th year as the State’s peak professional association for the real estate industry this year.

“2008 shaping up to be a successful year not only for the Institute but for our members with a number of strategic directions coming online throughout the year,” she said.

“These directions build on a strategic plan introduced last year to ensure the REIQ continues to offer the highest level of services to our increasing number of member agencies.”

At the heart of REIQ accreditation is the REIQ Standards of Business Practice and CPD training, which provides the industry with education and support to uphold these standards.

“The aim of CPD training is to provide REIQ accredited agencies with meaningful tuition that will improve business practices and help de-mystify some of the legislation requirements of the real estate industry sector – this is what distinguishes them from non-REIQ accredited agencies,” Ms Keenan said.

More than 85 per cent of all real estate agencies across the State are members of the REIQ.

The REIQ exists to support its more than 2,000 member agencies – which in turn employ some 15,000 property professionals – with information, training, products, and resources that complement their business practices.
